To display, create or modify the general characteristics of an IBM logical field, click the corresponding button in the "IBM logical field" section of the Create/Modify an access dialog box.

Lists

Properties

List of properties of the logical entity of the processed access.

Single-selection list.


Name:

Name of the property.

A selected property is added to the IBM logical field's "Function value" field by means of the Add button.

Mandatory selection.


Size:

Type and length of the property.


Function type

Type of the function to be applied to the IBM logical field.

Values available:

"C"

"CONCAT"-type logical property
(structure property or "Data structure").

"S"

"SUBSTRING"-type logical property
(sub-element property or "Subfield").

"R"

"RENAME"-type logical property.


Data entry

Name

Name of the logical field.

This name must be a valid IBM logical field name (as defined by IBM).

Mandatory entry.


Description

Description clearly identifying the IBM logical field.

Length: 250 characters maximum.

If, in the environment's attributes the "Size 50 exceeded warning" option for AS/400 object description has been activated, then the text turns red when the description exceeds 50 characters.

Mandatory entry.


Column Headings

Column heading descriptions used by the Adelia Screen Layout Manager or the Report layout manager in "Column"-type display formats.

You can define three column headings, with a maximum length of 20 characters each.


Short name

This name must be a valid short name (as defined by IBM).

Length: 10 characters maximum.

Default: first 6 characters of the IBM logical field.


Associated field

Name of the layout field.

Default: short name of the IBM logical field, prefixed with the character "Z".


Guide word

Symbolic name of the property used by the Adelia 4GL.

Default: name of the IBM logical field.


Assoc. guide word

Symbolic name of the layout field used by the Adelia 4GL.

Default: guide word of the IBM logical field, prefixed with the character "Z".


Function value

Expression corresponding to the type of function defined in the previous field.

Values available:

"C"-type property

List of the logical properties which take part in the structure property.
Each property is separated from the previous one by a space, and must belong to the logical entity.

"S"-type property

Name of the property from which the sub-element property is extracted, followed by the position of the beginning of extraction, and the length of the sub-element.
Each field is separated from the previous one by a space. The specified property must belong to the logical entity.

"R"-type property

Name of the property to be renamed. The specified property must belong to the logical entity.


Buttons

Add

This button adds the name of the property selected in the list, to the IBM logical field's "Function value" field.

It is not active when no property is selected in the list.


Enter/Create/Modify (validation)

The Enter button (in display mode) closes the dialog box.

The Create button (in creation mode) or Modify button (in modification mode) validates the dialog box.

The various fields of the dialog box are verified. If all are valid, the IBM logical field definition is updated in the database before the box is closed; otherwise, an error message is displayed.


Cancel

This button closes the dialog box without validating the choices made.

Keyboard shortcut: Esc.
