To display or modify the styles of a variable, click the Styles button of one of the following dialog boxes:
Modify a variable of a transaction.
Modifiy a variable of a transaction template.
Lists
Color
The display color of the variable can be selected in the list box.
The variable appears with all its display attributes on the screen of the Layout manager.
Keyboard
The keyboard type can be selected in the list box.
Radio buttons
Input
Output
Input/Output
Click the radio button corresponding to the required variable mode on the transaction or on the transaction template.
Check boxes
All the check boxes of the dialog box correspond to characteristics of variables. Some of them are dimmed and thus inactive depending on the type (numeric or alphanumeric) or the mode (Input, Output, Input/Output) of the variable.
All the characteristics mentioned below are not valid for "Output" fields.
Blanks admitted
For alphanumeric data only.
Lower case
For alphanumeric data only.
Right-adjust with blank fill
For numeric data only.
Right-adjust with zero fill
For numeric data only.
Field exit mandatory

The entry must be followed by an action on the Field-exit key. |
Automatic record advance
Checked |
The data is automatically sent to the unit. The user must fill in the field to the last position (including blanks). |
Valid field name
Checked |
The field must contain a valid field name (as defined by IBM). |

Display attributes
This section is used to select the display attributes of the variable.
When an attribute is checked, an entry field appears for entering an indicator number.
If a number is entered, this indicator conditions the attribute.
If no indicator is entered, the attribute is permanent.
The "Duplication" and "Protect field" attributes are not valid for an "Output" field.

Buttons
Enter/Modify (validation)
The Enter button (in display mode) closes the dialog box.
The Modify button (in modification mode) validates the dialog box.
However, data is only updated in the database when the Modifying a Variable of a Transaction or Modifying a Variable of a Transaction Template dialog box is validated.
Cancel
This button closes the dialog box without validating the modifications made.
Keyboard shortcut: Esc.
