It is possible to send an alert to an administrator if a job completes with errors or takes too long to run.

Access

To manage job manager administrator alerts, select the Alerts option from the Edit general menu.

Important note: alert configuration is restricted to administrators and is stored in the job manager configuration file.

Information entered

Alert configuration
Send an alert when a job fails
Send an alert when a job takes longer than expected
Send an alert when an internal error is detected

Select here the cases for which an alert should be sent.

By default: boxes not checked.

Note: the notion of "exceeding the defined time to run" is linked to the specification of a maximum execution time at the job level (see the TR_ADD_JOB service program). Exceeding the execution time does not imply that the job will be stopped - this requires administrator intervention.

If at least one of these boxes is checked, select the message type to be sent (Windows and/or Internet).

Windows messenger
Use Windows messenger service

Check this box if alerts must be sent via Windows messenger (NET SEND).

If so, indicate the names of recipient users or machines in the relevant recipient list.

To enter a recipient, click on the list and enter the information using the keyboard.

Internet mail
Use Internet mail service

Check this box if alerts should be sent via email (via an SMTP server).

If so, enter the Internet address and SMTP mail server in the relevant recipient list.

To enter a recipient, double-click on the list and enter the information using the keyboard.

Also indicate whether the server requires authentication and, if so, enter the user profile and password.

Important note: Internet mail only supports user authentication in "unsecured" mode (AUTH=LOGIN and AUTH=PLAIN support only).

Buttons

Enter

This button confirms the information entered, then closes the dialog box.

Keyboard shortcut: Enter.

Cancel

This button closes the dialog box without confirming the information entered.

Keyboard shortcut: Esc.

Note: failure to send an alert does not initiate an error in the job manager. Execution errors linked to Windows notification are not recorded. Internet mail errors are recorded in the "gestsoum.log" file located in the job manager start-up directory.
