Adelia uses an extended entity/relationship formalism: each entity or data item is described using not only traditional characteristics such as its name, length, description, etc., but also in terms of the processing operations attached to it.
This approach allows the functional and reference integrity constraints to be defined, as well as the initialisation, control, calculation, user help and update methods for each data item.
Adelia generates logical and physical models entirely automatically.
With existing applications, Adelia automatically retrieves the description from the database. Descriptions of data items can be enriched by adding the relevant methods. This enables Adelia to integrate perfectly with the existing system, with no risk of conflict.
