Access

To create, modify or display the general characteristics of a logical entity in the current application area, select the corresponding option in the context-sensitive menu (or the equivalent button) in the Logical entities tab of the LDM/PDM screen.

This dialog box displays the description of a logical entity.

Data entry

Name

Name of the logical entity.

This name must be a valid logical entity name (as defined by IBM), unique in the repository.

This name cannot be modified unless the entity is "purely" logical (no conceptual origin).

Length: 15 characters maximum.

This field is protected in modification mode.

Mandatory entry in creation mode.

Description

Description clearly identifying the logical entity.

Length: 250 characters maximum.

If, in the environment's attributes the "Size 50 exceeded warning" option for AS/400 object description has been activated, then the text turns red when the description exceeds 50 characters.

Mandatory entry in creation mode.

File name

Name of the future physical file generated.

This name must be unique among the names of physical files, logical files, and join entities.

Length: 10 characters maximum.

Default: name of the logical entity.

Format name

Name of the format associated with the future physical file.

Length: 10 characters maximum.

Default: name of the logical entity suffixed by the character "F".

Logical file name

Name of the logical file associated with the future physical file.

Alternative SQL name

Lets you enter an SQL table name that does not observe the Adelia naming conventions (upper/lower case, spaces, special characters, etc.).

SQL Schema

Lets you specify the schema owning the table. A non-standard schema name can be entered.

The checkboxes located below this field enable you to complete input:

Default value

The schema cannot be entered and reflects the value resulting from configuration of the environment (public entities) or the application area (private entities).

By default: box checked.

Extended syntax

Lets you enter a schema name that does not observe the Adelia naming conventions (upper/lower case, spaces, special characters, etc.).

It is selected and dimmed if the schema does not effectively observe these conventions.

This field is not visible if the Default value box is checked.

By default: box not checked.

Size

This size cannot be modified if it is already informed at the conceptual level.

Optional entry.

This rate cannot be modified if it is already informed at the conceptual level.

Optional entry.

Radio buttons

Visibility

The visibility of a logical entity can be either public or private.

Only the owner of the logical entity, or a software engineer with modification authorities, can change the visibility.

A public logical entity cannot be changed into a private logical entity if it is attached to more than one application area.

The visibility of a logical entity resulting from the conceptual level, is that of its conceptual origin, and cannot be modified.

In creation mode, the visibility is initialized as public.

Check boxes

Unique key

Characteristic of the access key.

Checked

The key becomes a unique key.

Values available:

FCFO

Information

This button opens a dialog box displaying information on the current logical entity, such as the name of the software engineer-owner, the dates and times of creation and modification.

Comments

This button opens a dialog box for entering a comment text which will be associated with the current logical entity.

If the logical entity is of conceptual origin, the text cannot be modified.

App. areas

This button opens a dialog box displaying the different applications areas to which the logical entity is attached.

Properties

This button opens a dialog box which is used to create (from conceptual properties), modify, delete, sequence or print the logical properties which serve as accesses to a logical entity.

Display / Assign

This button opens a dialog box displaying the list of management rules assigned to the logical entity, as well as the list of available management rules which can be assigned to the logical entity.

Sequence

This button opens a dialog box displaying the list of management rules assigned to the logical entity, in order to resequence this list by modifying the sequence numbers of the listed management rules.

This button is not active in display mode.

Enter/Create/Modify (validation)

The Enter button (in display mode) closes the dialog box.

The Create button (in creation mode) or Modify button (in modification mode) validates the dialog box.

The various fields of the dialog box are verified. If all are valid, the logical entity definition is updated in the database before the box is closed; otherwise, an error message is displayed.

Cancel

This button closes the dialog box without validating the choices made.

However, the operations performed on properties are not cancelled.

If a logical entity creation is cancelled, the possible comment and the logical properties are deleted, and the management rules are de-assigned.
