Access

To display, create or modify the general characteristics of an access, select the corresponding option in the context-sensitive menu (or the equivalent button) in the Accesses tab of the LDM/PDM screen.


Data entry

Name

Name of the access.

This name must be a valid access name (as defined by IBM), unique in the repository.

Length: 15 characters maximum.

Mandatory entry.


Description

Description clearly identifying the access.

Length: 250 characters maximum.

If, in the environment's attributes the "Size 50 exceeded warning" option for AS/400 object description has been activated, then the text turns red when the description exceeds 50 characters.

Mandatory entry.


Format name

Name of the specific format associated with the access.

If the access has no specific format, this field is left blank.


File name

Name of the future generated logical file.

Default: first 10 characters of the access name if the Generate real file name option is checked in the environment attributes; otherwise the first 8 characters of the access name.


Lists

Properties

List of properties of the logical entity.

To define the specific format of an access, select a property and click the Assign button.

Dummy properties cannot be part of a specific format. Therefore, they are not displayed.

Single-selection list.


Note: The specific formats of an access are taken into account in AS/400 native generation only.


IBM logical fields

List of the IBM logical fields of the current access format.

Single-selection list.


Note: The IBM logical fields of an access are ignored in Btrieve generation.


Buttons

Display/Assign

This button opens a dialog box displaying the list of management rules assigned to the access, as well as the list of available management rules which can be assigned to the access.


Sequence

This button opens a dialog box displaying the list of management rules assigned to the access, in order to resequence this list by modifying the sequence numbers of the listed management rules.

This button is not active in display mode.


Access

This button opens a dialog box which is used to display or modify the access path of an access.


Sel/Om (selections/omissions)

This button opens a dialog box which is used to display, create or modify the record selections-omissions on an access.


Information

This button opens a dialog box displaying information on the current access, such as the name of the software engineer-owner, the dates and times of creation and modification.


Comments

This button opens a dialog box for entering a comment text which will be associated with the current access.


Assign/De-assign

This button assigns/de-assigns a property to/from the specific format of the current access.

When a property is assigned, it is checked on the left of its name, the selected properties' counter is incremented by 1, and the De-assign button is displayed.

When a property is de-assigned, the checking disappears, the selected properties' counter is decremented by 1, and the Assign button is displayed.

This button is not active when no property is selected in the list.


Clear

This button is used to deselect all the properties checked in the list.

The selected properties' counter is reset.

This button is not active when no property is selected in the list.


Create

This button opens a dialog box which is used to create IBM logical fields.


Modify

This button opens a dialog box which is used to display or modify the general characteristics of the selected IBM logical field.

This button is not active when no IBM logical field is selected in the list.


Delete

This button deletes the selected IBM logical field.

This button is not active when no IBM logical field is selected in the list.


Enter/Create/Modify (validation)

The Enter button (in display mode) closes the dialog box.

The Create button (in creation mode) or Modify button (in modification mode) validates the dialog box.

The various fields of the dialog box are verified. If all are valid, the logical entity definition is updated in the database before the box is closed; otherwise, an error message is displayed.


Cancel

This button closes the dialog box without validating the choices made.

Keyboard shortcut: Esc.
