The decentralized translation tool is an add-on utility for the Adelia Studio translation manager.
This tool enables you to:
export constants for translation by the Translation manager in an Excel file,
and then to import the content of this Excel file to the Translation manager.
The export process creates two types of Excel file:
an Export_Const.xls file, which contains the constants from the Translation manager,
an Export_MSG.xls file for error messages.
To open the decentralized translation tool, open an MS-DOS command window, and then run the command GTRADD <Environment name>.
Data entry
Source language
Used to select the source translation language (either the development language or one of the languages created in the Translation manager).
Translation language
Used to select the target translation language (one of the languages created in the Translation manager).
This will be the language used for translations when importing/exporting.
Note: The words "Not migrated" will be shown in the list, to the right of the language name, if the translation manager data has not been upgraded to the current version for the selected language. The affected language cannot be processed if this happens. Ask your administrator to perform the upgrade procedure.
Check boxes
Import control
This box is checked by default. It indicates whether controls must be carried out when importing translations of constants or messages.
For constants:
The import will not be cancelled, even if an internal constant number present in the Excel file does not exist in the environment.
The import will not be cancelled even if the label of a constant entered in the Excel file does not correspond to the label defined in the environment.
For messages:
The import will not be cancelled even if the level 1 or level 2 text of a message in the Excel file does not correspond to the text defined in the environment.
Default value: checked.
Buttons
Export
This button opens a dialog box that lets you specify the export criteria.
Import
Make sure you have only selected one source language and one translation language (the language in which the translations will be retrieved). These languages must correspond with those used when exporting (they are given in the second sheet of the Excel file).
Clicking this button displays a message prompting you to confirm that you want to import the constants, followed by a second message requesting confirmation before importing the error messages.
When you have made your choices, a Windows selection box opens, prompting you to select the Excel files that contain the various translations (these files should have been generated by a previous export procedure). To choose a file, select it in the list and then click the 'Open' button. Clicking 'Cancel' aborts the entire import process and returns you to the main window. By default, the file selection boxes used when importing constants and/or error messages show the directory specified in the TEMP environment variable (e.g. c:\winnt\temp) when they are opened. Naturally, it is possible to specify a different directory.
Note: At the end of the export operation, a Windows message box shows whether or not the process has been carried out correctly. In the event of failure, the list of errors can be consulted in the log.txt file, located in the export/import directory.
