To create a view for a format different from a subfile format, check the Details box and click the Add button of the Create/Modify the views associated with a program dialog box.
To display or modify the general characteristics of a standard view, you must either:
Click the View button of the Modify the data flow dialog box.
Check the Details box and click the Modify button of the Create/Modify the views associated with a program dialog box.
Data entry
Code
View code.
This code must be unique in the program.
Length: 2 alphanumeric characters (from "A" to "Z", and from "0" to "9").
Mandatory entry.
Name
Name of the view.
This name must be a valid view name (as defined by IBM), unique in the program.
Length: 15 characters maximum.
Mandatory entry.
Associated file
Actual name of the database file which contains the data to be read and transferred.
This file must exist; otherwise, a warning message is displayed.
A click on the arrow button located on the right-hand side of the field opens a dialog box which is used to select a guide file.

View being updated
If this box is checked, the level-2 generation will assume that the file may be modified by the transaction.
Create record
This check box is used to create records in the file via the transaction if the instructions STORE or CLASSIFY are used.
It is only available when the View being updated box is checked.

Access criteria
Select the access criterion chosen among the three criteria displayed:
"By key" |
In this case, the Key button is active and at least one key must be entered. |
"Direct" |
In this case, the Key button is active; only one key must be entered. |
"Sequential" |
In this case, the Key button is inactive. |
Buttons
The arrow button opens a dialog box which is used to select a guide file for the view.
Key
This button opens a dialog box which is used to display, create or modify the keys of a view.
It is only active when the access criterion is "by key" or "direct".
Enter/Create/Modify (validation)
The Enter button (in display mode) closes the dialog box.
The Create button (in creation mode) or the Modify button (in modification mode) validates the dialog box.
The various fields of the dialog box are verified. If all are valid, the view definition is updated in the database before the box is closed; otherwise, an error message is displayed.
Cancel
This button closes the dialog box without validating the choices made.
