Depending on the database manager used with ODBC, some data types may not be handled (notably the Image and Timestamp types, among others).

Similarly, support for scalar functions or certain SQL syntaxes (EXEC_SQL) may vary according to the destination DBMS; for example, Microsoft Access does not support the ACOS, ASIN, LOG, LOG10 and PI mathematical functions. In addition, some functions may use alternative semantics and therefore fail to return the expected results.

ODBC drivers do not always support the update functions concerning the current element in a cursor (the Adelia instructions UPD_SQL_C and DELETE_SQL_C).
