This horizontal bar, located at the bottom of the screen, contains the following indications, from left to right:
The type of screen being designed: you can design AS/400 screen layouts on 24 lines/80 columns or 27 lines/132 columns.
The name of the last variable selected (when at least one variable is selected).
The various states of the keyboard: CAP if the keyboard is in uppercase mode (by means of the Caps Lock key), NUM if the numeric keypad is in numeric mode (by means of the Num Lock key), and INS if the keyboard is in insertion mode (this is the default mode which can be switched to overwrite mode by means of the Ins key).
The number of fields placed on the screen (except for hidden fields and window borders).
The location of the cursor (by line number and column number).
When a menu is opened, the status bar is replaced with a short comment on the selected option (provided that the On-line help option from the Display menu was checked).
