Where Middleware settings must be specified, the wizard requests some basic details by default and attempts to establish its operation.

On the relevant pages, it displays a list of the servers detected on the network and uses the default setting to establish a connection (user name: HARDISPS, password: HARDISPS).

The wizard automatically searches for the servers via the LAN, scanning the most frequently-used start ports (910 for Windows and iSeries).

You can change these values in the firststep.ini file:

  • the portsToScan line lets you define a list of ports to query.
Add the appropriate value if the daemons are started on a particular port.
  • you can use the defaultUser and defaultPassword lines to change the default login options.

If the server detection operation is unsuccessful (for example if a network device or a particular network configuration blocks the scan), you can specify the server name manually. In this case, the configuration will use the specified platform's default port.

The login settings are checked when a validation request is submitted by clicking the Validate button found on most of the wizard's pages. If the connection fails with the default settings, a dialog box is displayed, indicating the error encountered and letting you modify the port, user name and password.
