A tool bar is a graphical object comprising a series of buttons containing text and/or a picture. They generally provide fast access to the most commonly-used options in an application's menu bar.

By default, all the buttons are the same size, but their width may adapt to suit their contents. They can behave like pushbuttons, toggles (i.e. with two states) or options. With option buttons, only one of the buttons in the group can be 'pressed' at any time. Separators can be included between button groups. To explain each button's function, a Tooltip and a text message in a status bar can be displayed when the mouse pointer moves over the button.
