Three selection modes are available in the Report layout manager:
field by field;
in block;
in line.
These modes can be switched:
by means of the Selection option of the Options menu,
by holding the left button of the mouse and pressing the right button (while the mouse is located on the background). A message specifies the current selection mode in the status bar.
Field by field selection
To select a single object, just click it. The object appears with a border.
To select several objects, you can:
click successively the various objects to be selected while holding the Ctrl key;
define on the screen a selection rectangle by clicking outside of any field, then, while holding the left button of the mouse, and by scanning all the fields to be selected. For a field to be selected, it must be entirely included in the selection rectangle.
Block selection
This mode is used to select a rectangular block including the spaces and fields it contains.
A block can split a constant, but cannot split a variable. This is particularly used to select a column in a table.
The block selected this way can be:
Deleted |
All the contents on the right of the deleted block will be moved to the left accordingly. |
Cleared |
All the contents of the block is deleted. |
Moved |
By means of the Cut/Paste options, or moved directly with the mouse. |
Duplicated |
By means of the Copy/Paste options. |
Line selection
The cursor selects full lines which can be deleted, cleared, moved or duplicated.
