A join entity is a relationship (a relational function) defined between logical properties belonging to different logical entities.
To work with and generate join entities in the current application area, select the Join entities tab of the LDM/PDM screen.
Warning: Join entities are taken into account only in AS/400 native generation.
Lists
Join entities
List of join entities of the current application area.
Multiple-selection list.
With correction environments, a check mark can precede each join entity name.
A red check mark shows that the join entity is being held by the default correction.
A black check mark shows that the join entity is being held by a correction other than the default correction.
Context-sensitive menu
The following options are accessible at all times via the context-sensitive menu.
In addition, there may be buttons to perform the same actions on the right-hand side of the window, depending on the settings in the Create/Modify a software engineer dialog box's Preferences tab.
Create
This option opens a dialog box which is used to create a join entity.
Modify
This option opens a dialog box which is used to display or modify the general characteristics of the selected join entity.
It is not active when no join entity is selected in the list.
Delete
This option opens a message box requesting confirmation before deleting the selected join entities.
When the deletion is validated, the list of join entities is updated accordingly.
This option is not active when no join entity is selected in the list.
This option prints the characteristics of the selected join entity.
The printing job is submitted to the Job manager.
This option is not active when no join entity is selected in the list.
Attach
This option opens a dialog box which is used to attach join entities to the current application area.
Detach
This option detaches the selected join entity from the current application area. The same join entity may be re-attached by choosing the Attach button.
This option is not active when no join entity is selected in the list.
Format
This option opens a dialog box which is used to display or modify the format of the selected join entity.
This option is not active when no join entity is selected in the list.
Access
This option opens a dialog box which is used to display or modify the access path of the selected join entity.
This option is not active when no join entity is selected in the list.
Sel/Om (selections/omissions)
This option opens a dialog box which is used to display, create or modify the record selections-omissions of the selected join entity.
This option is not active when no join entity is selected in the list.
App. areas
This option opens a dialog box displaying the different applications areas to which the join entity is attached.
This option is not active when no join entity is selected in the list.
Hold
This option opens a dialog box enabling the selected join entities to be held by the default correction.
This option is only visible in correction environments.
It is only active when one or more join entities are selected in the list and the user has a default correction.

This button opens a dialog box that lets you display or edit a join entity's specific generation characteristics.
It is only active if one or more join entities are selected in the list.
Generate
This button starts the Physical Data Model generation for each selected join entity.
It is only active if one or more join entities are selected in the list.
