Warning: This topic does not affect the C generator.

On a 24 by 80-character terminal, you cannot create within layouts, variables greater than 80 characters in length (alphanumeric variables), and respectively, on a 27 by 132-character terminal, variables greater than 132 characters in length.

If you wish to define a variable of larger size:

  • Create a conceptual property of the desired length.

  • Generate the field reference file from the LDM/PDM session (use the corresponding option of the PDM menu).

  • Create a variable with maximum authorised length (before reaching the right border edge of the transaction).

  • By modifying the characteristics of the variable, specify the name of the conceptual property in the reference field.

Important note: Leave sufficient space for the following lines, otherwise you will have overlapping fields.

For the window-type transactions (Adelia or IBM), the fields cannot overflow on several lines.
