Adelia's graphical tools are especially well-suited to this approach. They use a highly visual graphical language to define the series of screens and external program calls. Once validated by the user, Adelia automatically translates the design into 4GL specifications. Adelia is supplied with a range of graphical templates which can be used by software engineers to provide users with ready-made solutions.
The layout phase involves designing the transactions and reports. Adelia's layout designer offers software engineers a range of very powerful tools. Whichever approach is used, Adelia generates the bulk of the 4GL code automatically. Only the specific algorithms are written by the developer in 4GL; any methods (i.e. management rules) associated with the data (i.e. properties) used by the programs will be implicitly attached to them.
