Access
To modify the characteristics of a constant with a view to translating it, you must either:
Select the Modify option from the context-sensitive menu in the Details tab of the Translation manager, or in the Translating associated constants dialog box.
Double-click on a constant in the same tab.
Click on the Details button of the Translating the constants dialog box.
Important: Any changes made to constants only affect the Translation manager and the programs generated in the translation languages. The changes are not made to the source program in the original language.

The possible constant types are:
DIC |
Dictionary constant (attached to the environment, not a program). |
CST |
Menu option in a Visual Adelia program, property of a Visual Adelia object (radio buttons, etc.) or a layout field in an Adelia program or taken from a Crystal Reports report. |
RAN |
Rank in a layout field in an Adelia program. Example: 0 .. 9, or "a" .. "z". |
TIT |
Title of a transaction or report. |
HEA |
Program heading (Adelia programs). |
OPT |
Option line (Adelia programs). |
FNT |
Function key line (Adelia programs). |
FIX |
Constant whose translated length matches the length of the original constant. Where necessary, the translated constant may be extended with trailing spaces. (Adelia programs). |
RSC |
Resource (resource destination subdirectory). |

Constant longer than 250 characters in a Crystal Reports report or an Adelia Web page. |
WTT |
Translation tag (Adelia Web programs). |
DIC, RAN, RSC, WTT and *** types cannot be modified.
Extension
This field lets you modify the parameters that control the extension of the constant's translation relative to its original size when the translated program is generated.
Possible values:
"Right" |
The translated constant will be extended to the right if the number of characters in the translation is greater than the specified maximum length. |
"Left" |
The translated constant will be extended to the left if necessary, if the number of characters in the translation is greater than the specified maximum length. |
"Free" |
The translated constant will be extended to either the right or left if the number of characters in the translation is greater than the specified maximum length. |
"None" |
The translation length will be checked to ensure that the maximum permitted length is complied with. |
Default: value set in the Translation manager's parameters.
Single-selection list.
Note: "***" type constants cannot be extended to the left as this is not taken into consideration when Adelia programs with Crystal Reports reports are generated.
Max. length
Maximum permitted length of the constant translation. The length displayed by default is that of the source constant.
The maximum length of the translation can be modified. This is only of use if the extension parameter is set to "None".
Comment
Allows to associate a comment with the current constant.
Buttons
Modify (validation)
Validates the modifications made and closes the dialog box.
Cancel
Closes the dialog box without validating the modifications made.
Keyboard shortcut: Esc.
Note: If several constants have been selected in the Details tab, the modification dialog boxes for the various constants will be opened consecutively. The Modify and Cancel buttons let you string together the changes to the characteristics of the various constants selected.
You can stop the modification sequence for a series of constants by clicking the active dialog box's 
close icon (keyboard shortcut: Alt + F4).
