The Associate option lets you link together several constants that together make up a single text, to make it easier to translate. When a long text extends over more than one line in an Adelia program, it is formed using several constants (for example a text spanning three lines will consist of three constants). Depending on the translation language used, you may need to break this text down into constants whose formats are different from those used in the original text (different number of lines and words, or different sizes). The Associate and Dissociate options let you break the text down as required.

Access

To associate the various constants making up a single text:

  1. Select the text's first constant in the Details tab of the Translation manager window.
  2. Select the Associate option from the context-sensitive menu.

Note: When a text contains several lines, repeat the association operation by selecting the last associated constant and associating it with the next, until you have associated as many constants as there are lines in the text.

The various associated constants will be displayed in gray in the order in which they were associated in the Details tab. The main constant (i.e. the one for the first line in the text) will remain black.

Lists

Possible constants for the association

This list displays all the constants that can be associated with the selected constant.

The constants offered for association are those shown on consecutive lines ("graphically close") in the same layout / window in the same program. They must have the same type.

Use the mouse to select the constant (i.e. the one for the next line in the original text) that you want to associate with the selected one.

Single-selection list.

Origin

For Adelia programs, shows the constant's position on the layout, in the form "L" Line / "C" Column.

For Visual Adelia programs, name of the graphical object (and property) that contains the constant, or name of the Crystal Reports report's section that contains it.

For resources or Adelia Web programs, this column is empty.

Single-selection list.

Buttons

Associate

Validates your selections and closes the dialog box.

The associated constant is shown in gray in the Translation manager's Details tab, immediately below the main constant, the appearance of which remains unchanged.

Cancel

Closes the dialog box without validating the modifications made.

Keyboard shortcut: Esc.

Notes: Merged constants, dictionary constants and "***" (already associated) constants cannot be associated.

Associable constants can only be associated once.

Once constants have been associated, you can only translate them as a single block, not individually. By dissociating the constants you will then be able to break down the translated text into constants with appropriate lengths and formats for the translation language.
