To search for graphical objects in a layout:

This dialog box is used to find objects checking a search expression in the active layout.

The search order corresponds to the sequence in which the objects are placed in the layout. In a window with tabs, the most recently created page is examined first.

The search runs in a loop: when the last object is reached, the search continues from the first object.

The search criteria are stored by the Find next and Find previous options in the layout manager's Edit menu.

This box replaces the log search function and expands its features:

  • The former "Search by name" option can be implemented by searching for the "name=<name>" or "name contains <name>" expression.
  • The former "Search by associated variable" option can be implemented by searching for the "associated_variable=<variable>" or "associated_variable contains <variable>" expression.
  • The former "Search by text" option can be implemented by searching for the "text=<text>" or "text contains <text>" expression.

Lists

Find

This list is used to enter a search expression for filtering the display in the list of objects. For example the "tab_stop=true" expression will only display objects with a "tab_stop" property with the "true" value.

The "Save filter" option is used to save a standard filter that will then be displayed in the list.

Check boxes

Match whole word only

Checked

The system only returns objects whose names and/or texts and/or associated variables exactly match the specified search string (i.e. not part-word matches).

Not checked

All objects whose names and/or texts and/or associated variables contain the specified string are returned.

Match case

Checked

The search concerns the character string exactly as it is entered, with the same use of upper and lower case.

Unchecked

The search is not case-sensitive.

Note: this modifier only applies to property searches containing free text. For example, an Adelia object name or variable name is always interpreted in upper case while the "object_name", "name" or "associated_variable" search will always be case insensitive.

Radio buttons

Up

Used to search upwards starting from the last object in the layout object order. When it reaches the start of the object list, the search starts again from the end.

Down

Used to search downwards starting from the first object in the layout object order. When it reaches the end of the object list, the search starts again from the start.

Buttons

Continue

Used to continue the search after stopping on an occurrence.

Cancel

Closes the dialog box without starting a search.

Keyboard shortcut: Esc.
