Access

To display, create or modify the general characteristics of a management rule, you must either:


A management rule is a repository object characterized by a text and specific attributes: a class, a type and an exclusivity status. Besides, several search words can be associated with a management rule.

Data entry

Name

Name of the management rule.

This name must be a valid management rule name (as defined by IBM), unique among the names of management rules in the environment.

Length: 15 characters maximum.

Mandatory entry.


Description

Description clearly identifying a management rule.

Length: 250 characters maximum.

Mandatory entry.


Lists

Class

Management rule class.

The contents of this list varies according to the object type from which the dialog box was called.

Mandatory selection.


Check boxes

Exclusivity

This field is used to specify whether the management rule is exclusive or not.

An exclusive management rule can only be assigned to a single object.

In creation mode, the rule is exclusive by default if the box was called from an object.

Otherwise (repository of management rules), it is non-exclusive by default.

In modification mode, if it is non-exclusive and if it is already assigned to two objects at least, it cannot be changed into an exclusive rule.


Source type

Indicates the context in which the management rule can be used.

Various values may be combined.

Values available:

ADELIA

The management rule can be used with ADELIA programs.
 

VISUAL

The management rule can be used with VADELIA or SADELIA programs.

WEB

The management rule can be used with WADELIA programs.

Text

Text of the rule.

Radio buttons

Visibility

The visibility of a management rule can be either public or private.

Only the owner of the management rule, or a software engineer with modification authorities, can change the visibility.

A public management rule cannot be changed into a private management rule if it is attached to more than one application area.

In creation mode, the visibility is by default set to public.


Type

A management rule can be formal or informal.

In creation mode, the management rule's type is by default set to formal.


Buttons

4GL Editor

This buttons opens the 4GL Editor in order to modify the management rule's source; see the explanation of the Text field above.


Search words

This button opens a dialog box which is used to work with the list of search words which are associated with the management rule.


Information

This button opens a dialog box displaying information on the current management rule, such as the name of the software engineer-owner, the dates and times of creation and modification.


Comments

This button opens a dialog box for entering a comment text which will be associated with the current management rule.


Parameters

This button opens a dialog box which is used to display, create or modify "PM" -class management rule parameters.

This button is only active if the management rule selected in the list belongs to the PM (Parameter) class.


Enter/Create/Modify (validation)

The Enter button (in display mode) closes the dialog box.

The Create button (in creation mode) or Modify button (in modification mode) validates the dialog box.

The various fields of the dialog box are verified. If all are valid, the management rule definition is updated in the database; otherwise, an error message is displayed.


Cancel

This button closes the dialog box without validating the choices made.

The links with the search words which were possibly associated with the management rule are deleted.

Keyboard shortcut: Esc.
